Home & Office Flood Procedures
Ram Cleaning Services water removal and flood restoration follows the following procedures and general guidelines.
Response Time: arrive at the job site as soon as possible after notification of the problem.
Initial Assessment: identify any potential health or safety hazards before proceeding and if a hazard is present, document a plan for proceeding utilizing an Hazard Assessment Sheet; follow the IICRC Standards for Water Damage Restoration for any non-standard, unclean water situations.
Is water still coming in and how can it be stopped? Is there a place where excess water can be drained? Furnishings, etc., are moved out of the work area to facilitate the flood restoration. Block and pads for underneath furniture need to be used as necessary to protect the furniture from direct contact with flood water.
Vacuuming/Disinfecting: using a truck mounted unit, flood water is extracted to the extent possible checking for low spots. Thorough vacuuming is required to reduce drying time. Disinfectant is applied to prevent mildew and eliminate the development of a musty odor. For sewer backups, it is recommended that the carpet and any affected underpad be removed.
Installing Fans/Dehumidifiers: Fans (Air Movers) are installed in corners and entrance ways, under the carpet if it is not glued down. Another fan may be installed blowing upwards to increase air movement. Air flow is further helped by opening windows if feasible, turning the furnace fan on continuous run and by turning on ceiling and bathroom fans. Finally a dehumidifier (more than 1 for larger floods) is installed to collect moisture out of the air. Times of higher humidity (ie. a wet or humid weather pattern) require more time to dry.
Arranging Follow Up: the flood site should then be checked the next and proceeding days to make sure that everything is proceeding smoothly, utilizing moisture detectors to help determine any necessary rearrangement of flood equipment.
Re installation and Carpet Cleaning: Once the flood site has been brought back to a dry state it is time to reinstall any carpeted flooring and give a thorough carpet cleaning.
