Stainless steel is very popular in kitchen appliances and home decor. Stainless steel has some very nice properties such as resisting rust and corrosion, and lasting a long time, but it does have a tendency to get dirty. However, don’t worry, you can’t over clean stainless steel.
Below is some information on how to keep your stainless steel appliances and your home nice and clean.
To begin with, stainless steel can be cleaned with just warm water and a clean cloth. After washing an appliance, use a clean dry cloth to dry it. Never use steel wool or steel brushes as they will leave scratches. If you find that the warm water doesn’t do a thorough enough job, use a mild soap detergent such as a liquid dishwasher. Rinse and dry with a cloth after cleaning. Fingerprints and other oily residues can be more difficult to remove. Try a glass cleaner (specialty stainless steel cleaners can be used as well and typically contain ammonia just like most retail glass cleaners-they may also help to prevent and repel fingerprints).
In the event that a stainless steel appliance gets scratched it can be polished to help remedy the situation. Stainless steel polishes available on the market will clean up most scratches and stains on stainless steel. But first, test an inconspicuous spot on the appliance. If the cleaner works well, polish the stainless steel and dry then rinse and dry with a clean dry cloth.
Remember, always rinse with clean water after cleaning to remove any cleaning agents and to help prolong the life of your stainless steel appliances as long as possible.
